The Practice
Erene Dellaporta’s artwork is embedded in the female form and psyche. How the nude has been depicted in society and through art has always intrigued her and been a central theme in her work. Her practice predominantly revolves around painting and drawing from memory, imagination and photographs, which represent the body being embraced while laid bare.
Via delicate lines, accident and control, she explores sensuality, movement and the maternal. Women repeatedly appear who may be archetypal, fictitious or known to and posed by herself. Continually exploring ways to subvert the male gaze, she takes her subjects out of the context of a space, freeing them in some shape or form. Mark making and continuous line are at the core of her practice, while vibrant colours and fluid marks also take presence in her works.
Erene, born in London 1986, now lives in Leigh on Sea, she graduated in 2008 from Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design & completed a Masters in Arts Education at UCL, 2017.
